- Johnny Rockets Fries Review: Rocketing to the Moon
With only 175 locations in the US and 375 worldwide, it is not easy to come across a Johnny Rockets. So when we found one in Scottsdale, AZ, we had to rush to review those golden sticks. These fries have a great crunch, while maintaining their form perfectly, which can only be achieved by keeping some of that potato skin. Here's our Johnny Rockets fries review. Johnny Rockets at the Fashion Square Mall in Scottsdale, AZ. Texture (9/10) These immensely crispy fries have a crunch second to none, crispy shell including plenty of pieces with potato skin, and gorgeously soft innards. The crackling sound you hear with every bite is absolutely satisfying and elevates the experience, something that most fries cannot accomplish. Based on the texture, these fries are on top of their game. Flavor (8/10) Johnny Rockets fries have a special seasoning along with the salt. The gentle paprika, garlic and pepper gives it an ever so needed kick that takes the fries to a whole new level. We also sensed a hint of "sugar" or some other type of sweetness that holds together the various seasoning ingredients. Based on flavor, these are simply wonderful. Shape (6/10) The fries are standard shaped and one can clearly tell that the round surface of the fries appear the most on the "tip" of the stick with potato skin often attached to it. The cuts from the side are obviously round on one edge. Nothing special here. Just a round potato faithfully cut into sticks. Presentation (3/10) Unfortunately, there's not much to say about the presentation. The fries were just dumped next to the burger. This isn't necessarily a bad thing but we think these fries need more dignity and attention. Ketchup was also difficult to access. Again, even accounting for takeout packaging, it's a bit of a miss. Look at that seasoning! Experience (9/10) The amazing fries perfectly complement the burger from Johnny Rockets and completes the meal in a way not possible by any other side. If you skip the fries at Johnny Rockets, you really haven't experienced flying to the moon. These are fries that can stand their own ground, even without ketchup or extra salt, and bursts with flavor upon each bite, making your hands reach out for more as you chew. Johnny Rockets provides a near-perfect experience. Texture 9 Flavor 8 Shape 6 Presentation 3 Experience 9 Overall 7.0 / 10 Conclusion Johnny Rockets is clearly doing something right here. It manages to create fries that are delicious, has character, while satiating the mainstream palate for everyone to enjoy. It is a bummer that the chain is shrinking slightly. We truly want more people to enjoy these golden sticks made with passion. Wherever you are in the country, if you see a Johnny Rockets, you know what to order.
- McDonald's Fries Review: The Everyday Benchmark
The fries from McDonald's, the timeless classic, needs no introduction. This crispy stick of potato sets the bar for all other fries. With the original combination of saltiness and crunchiness that strikes the balance of flavor in your mouth, the "everyday benchmark" shall be tested to find its true place in the ranks. Here's our McDonald's fries review. Texture (6/10) Crispy and crunchy on the exterior while soft and warm on the inside. They are always well heated and have a genuine crunch to them. You can feel the texture of the potato as it slides through your mouth. Texture is one of the great strengths of McDonald's fries. Flavor (6/10) McDonald's has always set the benchmark for fries but the real familiarity with these fries lies in the classic flavor of these golden sticks. They are warm and well salted all around. They jolt your senses with a short flavor which begs you to eat more. This is the standard, that is vernacular yet difficult to surpass. Shape (7/10) The shape of the fries are a standard stick-like shape. They are quite sturdy so your fries won't be flopping about. They are easy to hold, long, and accessible too for grabbing with your fingers from the container. It's designed for easy consumption on the go. Presentation (3/10) The classic red carton that fries are served in, with the big yellow M on the front, has been synonymous to the benchmark enjoyed by millions. However, it has been some time since they have replaced this with a paltry paper bag, without shape and character. This was truly a disgrace for the Large sized fries. For this, we deducted points but it does seem like in April of 2025, with the advent of A Minecraft Movie , the red Cadillac of fries container seems to be making a comeback. Until we see this more consistently, the score will remain at 3. The paper container Large Fries really was a downsizing in volume. We hope the classic red cartons are back permanently. Experience (8/10) The fries pair well with the burgers or the nuggets that come alongside providing a salty and crunchy balance to whet your palate. A McDonald's meal is never complete without the fries and for this, it's place in the overall experience is crucial. Texture 6 Flavor 6 Shape 7 Presentation 3 Experience 8 Overall 6.0 / 10 Conclusion The McDonald's French Fries is truly a classic all over the world. It is impressive how they are able to maintain such consistency and a high bar in so many locations, making everyone on this planet happy. However, it does not mean that it is the pinnacle of potato perfection. The flavors can be a bit too mundane and have a tough time competing with fresh cut fries as they are factory produced on a mass scale. Also, McDonald's had a huge gamble with the Large Fries packaging. Still, as an everyday benchmark, it is a high bar to pass and is worthy of an aspirational target, for all other makers of fries.
- French Fries, the Classic We All Overlook
To all the culinary enthusiasts, fry aficionados, and those who think they can cook but really just microwave leftovers. It's a well-known fact that French fries are the global MVP of the food world. Yet, since their glorious inception, these golden sticks of joy have been underestimated, taken for granted, and sadly, shoved to the side of the plate like that one cousin no one wants to talk to at family gatherings. But let’s get real for a second—are they merely a sidekick in the culinary saga, or are they the true heroes that elevate a meal from “meh” to “where have you been all my life?” We consume them repeatedly, time after time, like they’re the last lifeboat on the Titanic, yet we often don't stop to appreciate the classic. I mean, when was the last time you took a moment to notice the texture, flavor, and essence of that crispy creation? Let's set the record straight: fries are NOT just a side, NOT merely an enhancer, and certainly NOT something to be ignored. In this blog, we will explore which fries truly stand out, resolve the debate over who makes the best French fries, and give the respect and spotlight this marvelous creation deserves each and every meal.
- Wendy's Baconator Fries Review: Can Cheese and Bacon Cheer You Up?
Wendy's launched the Baconator in 2007. Since then, it has been established as the guiltier version of their flagship next to the Dave's burger line up. So when we saw the Baconator version of Wendy's fries, we had to review it. Now, the original fries weren't too stellar, but as we all know, there's nothing cheese and bacon can't fix right? The Baconator in its manifestation as a burger makes complete sense. Texture (1/10) So you take the soggy, deflated and floppy fries and dump a whole bunch of melted cheese on top of it. Well we can confidently tell you that it doesn't work from a texture perspective. The fries are so drenched you cannot even lift them up without them ripping. This isn't your crisp stick with a delightful cheese dip. This is just a mess. Once in a while, the crisp bacon reminds you that there could be hope. But the bacon isn't sprinkled uniformly enough. This is the worst texture of any fries we have ever reviewed. The texture is borderline gross and inedible. Flavor (4/10) Quite surprisingly, the cheese and bacon did not improve the fries. Rather, it made the fries even saltier and recall that the base fries was already pushing the limits in terms of saltiness. The cheese itself felt like the cheapest artificial kind. It substantially downgrades the original version. Shape (3/10) The shape score also takes a hit. The deflated fries barely hold their shapes in the container. And the moment anything is picked up, it literally falls apart. You desperately try to dig an intact one from the bottom of the pile but even for those, you dare not dip into the cheese lest losing its shape. Presentation (3/10) Imagine you have a bucket of wilted potato sticks drenched in sticky liquid. This is exactly what the Baconator fries were. The cheese wasn't spread evenly and was clear that whoever dumped the liquid weren't really aiming for the center. On top of this, the comparatively large bacon pieces were just thrown on top. Wendy's really did not put much effort here. We really liked Wendy's original carton. The Baconator version however is far from it. Experience (2/10) Charging extra for something that makes the original fries materially worse simply destroys the experience. At $7.60 for the large portion, this is almost an embarrassment to the promise of the Wendy's brand. Whether greeted by a cheerful girl with pigtails or not, this creation sounds good in concept but delivers a miserable experience in practice. Texture 1 Flavor 4 Shape 3 Presentation 3 Experience 2 Overall 3.6 / 10 Conclusion Wendy's Baconator fries is absolutely one of the worst fries we have ever reviewed. It ruins many things that make fries great while adding significantly to the cost (and hence a higher price). After this review, we have vowed to never eat the Baconator fries ever again. Wendy's, if you are reading this, please consider removing it from your menu or go back to the drawing board on how to combine fries, cheese and bacon.

- The Ultimate Guide to Perfecting Homemade French Fries
Are you a french fry fanatic looking to up your homemade fry game? Look no further! Today, we are diving deep into the art of making the perfect french fry right in your own kitchen. Let's turn those spuds into golden perfection! First things first, choosing the right potato is crucial. Opt for a high-starch variety like Russet potatoes for that fluffy interior and crispy exterior that we all love in a great fry. Make sure to wash and peel the potatoes before cutting them into even strips. A uniform size is key to ensure even cooking. Once you have your potato strips ready, it's time to double fry. This technique is a game-changer in achieving that crispy outside and fluffy inside. The first fry at a lower temperature cooks the inside of the fry, while the second fry at a higher temperature creates that satisfying crunch. When it comes to frying, using the right oil is essential. Peanut oil or sunflower oil are great options due to their high smoke points, which means they can be heated to the temperatures needed for frying without burning. For seasoning, the possibilities are endless. Keep it simple with just salt, or get creative with a blend of herbs and spices like garlic powder, paprika, or even truffle salt for a gourmet touch. Toss the fries in the seasoning while they're still hot to ensure maximum flavor. And there you have it - the ultimate guide to perfecting homemade french fries! Whether you enjoy them as a side dish or a tasty snack, mastering the art of making french fries at home is sure to impress your taste buds and anyone lucky enough to try them. So, grab those potatoes, heat up that oil, and get ready to indulge in some crispy, golden perfection. Happy frying!
